Introduction

DER can impact arc-flash in three ways:

  1. Contribute fault current and hence increase the fault current levels
  2. Contribute fault current, which reduces fault current from upstream slowing fault clearance time and increasing arc energy
  3. Grounding banks provide another ground source which can slow down pstream zero sequence overcurrent elements, delay fault clearance and increase arc energy
