Introduction
EPRI's Distribution Protection Analysis Toolkit (DPAT) performs wide-ranging protection coordination, load-flow, and fault studies to assess protection under different grid conditions. It also monitors performance over time to automatically identify any potential misoperations before they occur.
DPAT can be used to pro-actively monitor protection coordination to identify protection issues immediately rather than during their 5-10 year periodic reviews. This is especially useful with rapidly-changing grid conditions with more reclosers being deployed, more distribution automation, and more DER. Issues identified by the tool include miscoordination, uncleared faults considering different feeder configurations and DER output
When the tool identifies a protection issue - it will now automatically calculate protection settings to resolve them.
